Abstract Art

Earlier on this year, Room 24 viewed the awesome artwork of the students in Huzzah, a class in British Colombia.  They entitled their work "Eye Candy" - and we thought it looked pretty scrumptious.  Three weeks later, we saw some more artwork that was almost identical to Huzzah's Eye Candy.  This time it was called "Blob Art" and it was the stunning work of the students in Room 6 @ Halcombe School, New Zealand.

We'd thought about doing some pieces of our own after seeing Huzzah's masterpieces but after seeing the powerful finished products of Room 6 we decided it was time to stop thinking and start doing.  With two classes artwork in front of us, we had the privilege of being able to spend some time examining and analysing what was before us.

We highlighted what different techniques both classes used to make their art effective before reaching a consensus as to what we were going to incorporate into our compositions.  What an opportunity it was to exercise our Habits of Mind and higher order thinking skills!  We decided on the name "Abstract Art" for our creations because while we were viewing the other classes' work many of us commented how we could see different things in the various pieces.

We'd like to thank both Huzzah and Room 6 for their inspiration.

    1. Hello Mrs Skinner,

It's so nice of you to say such a nice thing! Our class sure did work hard on these. It is quite cool how, even though we all had the same instructions they can all look so different!

Mine is one of the bolder ones. Which ones do you think stand out the most, the light shaded ones, or the dark shaded ones? I think either way they all stand out on their own.

      Blog back,
      Molly

    2. Dear Mrs Skinner

Thank you for your comment! I really enjoyed creating these wonderful pieces of art. If you extend the sprial slide show and double click on a piece of artwork you can see that we have coloured it dark for a bit of the pipe and light on the rest of the pipe.

      Keep in touch.

    1. Hi Trevor,

      Remember me? It's Molly again!

So, about all of these questions you asked about, we have 2 weeks inbetween terms, which we have 4 of, and we call them term 1 holidays and same with the other terms. Except after term 4, we just call them summer holidays. I love our summer holidays. They're usually so much fun!

In NZ, everyone is different. We don't always like the same sports, but my favourite would have to be the gymnastics and the sycronized swimming. But my family watches all of the sports whenever we can!

Oh, you know how you're on our stunning student blogs? Well Miss Mcloed is letting me get a blog of my own! I will tell you about it and give you the link as soon as I've got it started!

      Your kiwi friend,
      Molly

    2. Hey Molly,
That's great to hear that you will get to have your own student blog. I'm sure it will be great.
The terms thing is sorta confusing haha we are on summer break and we have 3 months off. It's boring if you like school, which I do. Which break is your longest? Well I can't wait to see your blog.
      Your friend,
      Trevor

    3. Hi Trevor!

Our longest holiday is the one from the end of Term 4, which is pretty much December and January, and about 1 or 2 weeks in February. That's my favourite (you know, holiday)! What's your favourite holiday?

My blog is going to get up on about the 14th or 15th of August, my teacher just needs to get me started. I'm so excited you have no idea!

How far through your holidays are you? I'm right in the middle of our Term 3.

Today (Friday) had some students from Japan come to our school and they were really nice. They said that we were so nice and laid-back, and their country and another country that one girl went to were so busy! I don't really like busy places, do you?

      Your pal,
      Molly

  3. Dear Room 24

Our class blog is off to a fantastic start! I was so excited at the start of the year when Miss McLeod told us that we were doing blogging because last year I did blogging at my primary school and it was so much fun! I really like blogging why? Because we get to meet other classes around the world such as, open the door to B4 and 4km and 4kj and we also get to chat to them. I hope I get to carry on with blogging with my year 8 teacher because its such a great experiance!

Also well done Molly for earning your own blog!

    Your class mate,
    Cody

    1. Dear Cody

You are right, our class blog is going so well. I'm anticipating that we'll continue to advance our blogging skills as well as use more Web2.0 tools as the year progresses.

I'm thrilled that we have Molly spear-heading the Student Blogs and I'm wrapped to know we have more students that will be earning their own blogs in the coming few weeks.

      Have a lovely Sunday!

      Miss McLeod

  4. Dear room 24
I had a great time doing this art work. It was a great idea to do this art thanks to room 6 at Holcombe and huzzah for giving us the great idea to do this great art work. It always reminds me of candy. My most recent art project was when I made an ink art coi carp fish that I made with Mr. Frost.

  5. Dear Miss.McLeod and Room 24,
I think that our abstract art looks fantastic!
Our blog has definetly improved since the start of the year, we have so many visitors.
I think that the Links for Learning page is very helpfull, and the Book Club page is interesting to look at to. The How To Comment page will be very usefull to new bloggers, and the cybersafety page is a great idea.
    Kind Regards,
    Your classmate,
    Jodie.

That is so cool! It looks like candy to me. At our school we have an art show, where all of the grades have art in the show and all the parents come to see it.
